We've spent the past year designing from Sydney, building from scratch, and shipping to mountains we sometimes haven't even been to yet. So when Snow Travel Expo came around — with real floors, real people, and actual snow gear smell in the air — we packed the booth, loaded the car, and showed up.
Both cities. First time. No idea what to expect.
Melbourne First
Melbourne set the tone. The turnout was serious — people who know their gear, who have opinions about layering systems, who can tell the difference between a beanie that fits under a helmet and one that just claims to. We weren't sure how a brand as new as ours would land in that room.
It landed well.
People stopped. They picked things up. They asked questions that showed they actually cared about the answers — about the mohair, about the stomp pad grip, about whether the soft flask really stays flexible in the cold. (It does.) By the end of the weekend, we'd had more real conversations about what we're building than in any comment section or DM thread combined.
Sydney — And Then HamBao Walked In
Sydney had everything Melbourne had — and then HamBao showed up.
If you've followed us for a while, you know HamBao isn't just a logo. He's the reason the brand exists the way it does — the character that pulls the whole thing together, the thing that makes a stomp pad feel like a collectible and a ski beanie feel like a personality. Seeing people's reactions when they met him in person for the first time was genuinely one of the better moments we've had as a brand.
Kids grabbed him. Adults grabbed him. People who had never heard of HB Snowear stopped, asked who he was, and left with stickers.

What We Heard
We got a lot of kind words across both expos, but the ones that meant the most were the ones that got specific. People noticed that we weren't trying to look like every other brand in the room — that we'd made things that actually work without making them look like they were designed by an engineering committee.
That's the line we've been trying to walk since day one. Functional gear that doesn't feel industrial. Snow equipment that has a point of view. Things you'd want to own even if you weren't standing on a mountain.
Hearing that back from people who spend real time on the hill — skiers, boarders, people who've tried every beanie on the market — meant a lot.
Something We're Taking Back to the Studio
One thing came up again and again across both cities: skiers. We've always been a brand for anyone on the mountain, but we heard loud and clear that the ski community wants to feel included — in the design, in the product range, in the story.
That's something we're taking seriously. Expect to see HB Snowear putting more focus on ski-specific gear going forward. The same approach — thoughtful materials, HamBao personality, nothing boring — just with more of the mountain covered.
Thank You
To everyone who stopped by in Melbourne and Sydney — thank you. You asked good questions, gave genuine feedback, and made two weekends in expo halls feel like something worth doing again.
We'll be back. HamBao will definitely be back.
Until then — the mountain's open. See you out there.
